Irene A. Selvig

Irene A. Selvig, 76, of 1296 Underwood Ave. in Charles City, IA died Tuesday (May 20, 2008) at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, (May 23, 2008) at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Irene’s service Friday at the church.

Irene Amelia (Schoborg) Selvig, the daughter of Ben and Anna (Hager) Schoborg was born on November 18, 1931 in Marshalltown, IA. She received her education in the Marshalltown area. On June 29, 1952 Irene was united in marriage to Carl “Mike” M. Selvig in St. Anthony, IA. Mrs. Selvig was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to bake for Sunday family meals, crocheting and tending her large garden. Irene was employed as a bus driver for twenty years in the Charles City area. She also helped her husband farm.

Irene had been a homemaker throughout most all of her life. She took great pride in providing for her family, and being a nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Irene’s life are her four sons, Michael (Linda) Selvig, Richard Selvig of Charles City, Thomas (Ellen) Selvig of Riceville and John (Beverly) Selvig of New Hampton; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Bartosh of Worthington, MN Rose Long of Marshalltown, IA and one brother, Ronald Schoborg of Harrison, AR; as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Irene in death are her parents; her husband, Carl “Mike” M. Selvig on November 10, 1992 and four brothers.
