Lester G. Hirsch


Lester G. Hirsch, 87, of Charles City, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Floyd County Medical Center, in Charles City.

Funeral services for Lester Hirsch will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor LaVonne Kaasa of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Military Honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.

Lester George Hirsch was born March 11, 1921, in rural Charles City, the son of Charles and Maggie (Heitz) Hirsch. He received his education in Charles City and graduated in 1939. In 1942, Lester entered the Army, being honorably discharged in 1946. Lester farmed all of his life and also worked at Becker Home Improvement in Charles City for 25 years. He was a member of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church and American Legion. His interests included wood working, planting flowers and his love for farming.

Lester is survived by his wife of 37 years, Arla “Ginger” Hirsch of Charles City; step-daughter, Sandy Harang of Des Moines; two step-sons, Larry (Sandy) Brown of Cedar Park, Tex. and Scott (Rhonda) Brown of Elk Mound, Wis.; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one nephew, Larry Hirsch; and one niece, Norma Hirsch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Kimberly Harang; one son-in-law, David Harang; three sisters, Ruby Lokenvitz, Dorothy Hirsch and Gladys Hirsch; one brother, Milton Hirsch; Alice Hirsch.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the West St. Charles United Methodist Church in care of Sue Allen 2103 Seven Mile Rd. Rockford, IA 50468.
