Robert Schmidt


Robert Schmidt, 100, of Floyd, died Monday, June 2, 2008, at his home.

Funeral services for Robert Schmidt will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor LaVonne Kaasa, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Floyd.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Robert Hanf Schmidt was born on the family farm south of Floyd on April 13, 1908, the son of Wencel and Minnie (Hanf) Schmidt. He graduated from the Floyd High School in 1925 and attended Iowa State University. On September 29, 1934, he was united in marriage to Angeline Beekman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They worked on the family farm and fed cattle even into the retirement years. Angeline died on October 4, 1989. Robert served as secretary of the Floyd Consolidated School for several years, as township clerk and helped in establishing the Floyd County Soil Conservation District. His interests included livestock, Chesapeake dogs and raising geraniums.

Living family members include a daughter, Sandra Ewalt of Floyd; three grandchildren, Darcy Ewalt Barrentine and her family Briana Rae and Brandon Luke Barrentine, Mark (Kay) Ewalt and Kyle Ewalt and his family Kara Amber and Shelby Ray Ewalt; a sister, Vanita Workman of Floyd; several nieces and nephews; and many good neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Angeline.
