Thecla L. Ott

Thecla L. Ott, 84, of Charles City, died Monday, June 9, 2008, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Thecla Ott will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. and there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Thursday.

Thecla Lorraine Wenthold Ott was born January 7, 1924, at Festina, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Kleve) Wenthold. She attended school in Festina. On April 24, 1946, she was united in marriage to Oscar Ott at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Festina. Thecla was very active in helping her husband on their farm near Rudd. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rosary Society and Senior Citizens Center. Her interests included crocheting, needle point, cooking, baking and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Living family include nine children, Joyce (Jim) Foth of Ankeny, Jerald (Mary) Ott of Mason City, Richard (Linda) Ott of Nora Springs, Phyllis (Bill) Ritter of Nevada, Dean (Ann) Ott of Marble Rock, Larry (Debra) Ott of Greene, Cyndi (Robert) Scott of Des Moines, Sheri (Bernard) Larson of Round Rock, Tex. and Sally (Patrick) VanHooser of Forest City; 24 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; four sisters, Evelyn Wiltgen of Ossian, Agatha Burke of Waucoma, Noreen (Bob)
Drahozal of Cedar Rapids and Margaret Ann (Gervase) Hanken of Calmar; five brothers, Greg Wenthold of Ossian, Ray (Marsha) Wenthold of Ossian, Francis (Joanne) Wenthold of Ossian, Linus (Connie) Wenthold of Sleepy Eye, Minn. and Ronald (Marlene) Wenthold of Ossian; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar; grandson Jamie Ott; sister, Rita Wiltgen; and brother, Eddie Wenthold.
