Betty L. Blickenderfer


Betty L. Blickenderfer, 81, of Charles City, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Betty Blickenderfer will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Debi Lincoln of the Jordan River Church and United Church of Christ, Colwell will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Betty Lorraine Markle Blickenderfer was born December 12, 1926, at Spring Valley, Minn., the daughter of Lloyd and Floy (Malcobson) Markle. She graduated from high school in Santa Barbara, Calif., attended LaJames Beauty College and Beautician College in Mason City. On November 25, 1945, she was united in marriage to Homer Blickenderfer at Austin, Minn. Betty owned and operated the Golden Touch while helping with the family trucking company. She was a member of the Moose Loge for over 50 years, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Suroptimist and the Floyd County Cancer Society. Her interests included traveling, camping, dancing and flying their own airplane around the country.

Living family members include her husband, Homer Blickenderfer of Charles City; three children, Larry (Jane) Blickenderfer of Shell Rock, Lorraine Lewis of Charles City and Louis (Ann) Blickenderfer of Charles City; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; sister, Verna Sterling of Albia; and brother, Rolland (Margarite) Markle of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
