Linda Rae Ferch Webb

Linda Rae Ferch Webb, 55, of Charles City, died Friday, May 23, 2008.

Funeral services for Linda Ferch Webb will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag of the
Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Linda Rae Ferch Webb was born April 21, 1953, at Charles City, the daughter of Harold and Lillian (Horton) Ferch. She graduated from the Charles City High School. Linda managed the Best Budget Inn in Charles City for two years. Her interests included gardening, bowling, collecting recipe books, owls and Pillsbury Dough Boys, and spending time with her grandchildren. Linda will be remembered as a great cook and a generous person.

Living family members include three daughters, Niki Hendrikson of Mason City, Dawn Lunn and special friend Wade Marzen of Buffalo Center and Joy (Jason) Jepperson of Charles City; her mother, Lillian Ferch of Charles City; ten grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, Jacob, Kira, Paige, Kristina, Samantha, Brody, Kastin and Twila; two sisters, Pat (Paul) Krueger of Ionia and Micki (Daniel) Bartelt of Charles City; brother, Stanley Ferch of Golden, Colo.; many nieces; nephews; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father; brother, LeRoy Ferch; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Rita Catherine Burgart


Rita Catherine Burgart, age 74 of New Hampton, died Wednesday morning May 21, 2008, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Center, New Hampton with Msgr. Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed by her children. Lector for the service will be nephew, Keith Weigel. Michelle Lau will be the organist accompanying the North Washington's Men Choir and the Holy Family Resurrection Choir. Hymns will be "Be Not Afraid", "You Are Near", "On Eagle's Wings" and "Lead Me Lord". Eucharistic ministers will be sisters, Marlene Weigel and Elaine Wedeking. Presenting the offertory gifts will be her brother, Cletus Laures and sister, Diane Brandt.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton with grandsons, Brian Heying, Tony Breitbach, Austin Collins, Gerry Burgart, Justin Burgart, Jacob Burgart, Jon Ayers, Jesse Ayers, Jackson Anderson, Sawyer Anderson and Coleton Berg as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Rita’s granddaughters, Rhonda Dreckman, Amanda Rockow, Jayda Dietzenbach, Jill Macklenburg, Erica Bodensteiner, Krista Walsh, Abby Burgart, Amber Breitbach, Dayna Collins, Maggie Collins, Sierra Burgart, Shanae Burgart, Lacey Einck, Kylie Einck, Latasha Berg and Courtney Berg.

Rita Catherine (Laures) Burgart was born August 17, 1933, in New Hampton, Iowa the daughter of Vincent and Ida (Schueller) Laures. She received her education at St. Mary’s Grade School and High School in North Washington, graduating in 1951.

On April 22, 1953, at the Immaculate Conception Church, North Washington Rita was united in marriage to Gerald Francis Burgart. To this union ten children were born. The couple lived in the North Washington area for many years having also lived in Charles City for two years. In 1973, the Burgarts moved to New Hampton. Gerald died of cancer on March 10, 1977, at the age of 48. Rita worked for 24 years at the former Sara Lee, retiring in 1995. In 2000, Rita began her long battle with the neurological disease, Cortical Basal Degeneration.

Rita loved baking, gardening, making quilts, playing cards and bean bags. She loved the time she spent with family and friends, who will miss her dearly. Memberships include Holy Family Parish and Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of the America’s and the VFW Auxiliary in Alta Vista.

Survivors include three sons, Mike (Julie) Burgart of Cedar Falls, Steve (Joan) Burgart of Calmar, Stan (Audra) Burgart of New Hampton; seven daughters, Nancy (Claude) Babcock of Lawler, Cindy (Larry) Heying, Sue (Randy) Breitbach and Bonnie (Steve) Collins all of New Hampton, Denise (Randy) Ayers of Lidderdale, IA, Wendy (Kevin) Einck and Carol (Steve) Anderson all of New Hampton; 27 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil (Kathleen) Laures of New Hampton and Cletus (Jeanne) Laures of Ionia; three sisters, Marlene (Bill) Weigel of New Hampton, Elaine (Roger) Wedeking and Diane (David) Brandt all of Charles City; one brother-in-law, Bob Burgart of North Washington; two sisters-in-law, Darlene McGowan and MaDonna Laures both of New Hampton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Dale Laures and Kenny Laures; a sister, Virginia Laures and a great-granddaughter, Magdaline Dietzenbach.

Fredrick Lynther

Frederick Lynther, 68, a resident of the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, IA passed away Thursday (May 22, 2008) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Cremation has taken place in the care of Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home. Graveside committal inurnment services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday (May 28, 2008) at Riverside Cemetery, 59 Riverside Dr. in Charles City, with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Inurnment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Charles City, IA. Fred was born January 25, 1930 in Clayton County, IA the son of Mrs. Pearl (Hines) Lynther. Fred resided in several care facilities throughout his lifetime and captured the hearts of many people that worked with him. Fred enjoyed making stocking caps out of a small loom as well as braiding rugs. Fred will be greatly missed by residents and staff at the 11th Street Chautauqua Nursing Home, where he currently resided.

Irene A. Selvig

Irene A. Selvig, 76, of 1296 Underwood Ave. in Charles City, IA died Tuesday (May 20, 2008) at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, (May 23, 2008) at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 S. Main St. in Charles City with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Interment will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Irene’s service Friday at the church.

Irene Amelia (Schoborg) Selvig, the daughter of Ben and Anna (Hager) Schoborg was born on November 18, 1931 in Marshalltown, IA. She received her education in the Marshalltown area. On June 29, 1952 Irene was united in marriage to Carl “Mike” M. Selvig in St. Anthony, IA. Mrs. Selvig was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to bake for Sunday family meals, crocheting and tending her large garden. Irene was employed as a bus driver for twenty years in the Charles City area. She also helped her husband farm.

Irene had been a homemaker throughout most all of her life. She took great pride in providing for her family, and being a nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Irene’s life are her four sons, Michael (Linda) Selvig, Richard Selvig of Charles City, Thomas (Ellen) Selvig of Riceville and John (Beverly) Selvig of New Hampton; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Bartosh of Worthington, MN Rose Long of Marshalltown, IA and one brother, Ronald Schoborg of Harrison, AR; as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Irene in death are her parents; her husband, Carl “Mike” M. Selvig on November 10, 1992 and four brothers.

Grace M. Griffin

Grace Mae (Boggess) Griffin, 95, formerly of 306 S. Joslin St. in Charles City, IA died Sunday (May 18, 2008) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, (May 23, 2008) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane in Charles City with the Rev. Carl A. Ries presiding. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Grace’s service Friday at the church.

Grace Mae (Boggess) Griffin, the daughter of Calvin Sr. and Mabel (Frazee) Boggess was born on March 14, 1913 in rural Bassett, IA. She received her education at the Deerfield #9 School and graduated from the Colwell High School on May 18, 1934. On July 10, 1935 Grace was united in marriage to Alfred D. Griffin at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, IA. Mrs. Griffin was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to bake goodies, embroidery, making quilts and enjoyed going fishing with her husband, Alfred. Grace worked at the Checkerboard Café and she was a nurses aide at the De Buehr Nursing Home, both in Charles City, IA.

Grace had been a homemaker most all of her life. She took great pride in providing for her family, and being a nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and St. Jude’s Circle. Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in Grace’s life are her two children, Theresa M. “Terri” (George) Laubscher of Charles City and Bernard A. (Irene) Griffin of Ankeny, IA; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude “Gertie” Houser of New Hampton, IA and Maebelle Stelzer of Charles City, IA as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding Grace in death are her parents; her husband Alfred D. Griffin in 1994; one son Eugene Griffin in 1995; daughter-in-law, Pearl Griffin in 2002; eight brothers; two sisters and a grandson, David Kriz.

William "Willie" Edwin Sears, Jr


William "Willie" Edwin Sears, Jr., 74, of Charles City, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Willie Sears will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Greenfield Cemetery in Harmony, Minn.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.

William Edwin Sears, Jr. was born November 8, 1933, at Cresco, the son of William G. and Edna (Gager) Sears, Sr. He received his education at rural schools near Harmony, Minn. William proudly served in the United States Army. On July 7, 1957, William was united in marriage to Beverly Vatland at Mabel, Minn. In 1960 they moved to Charles City where Willie was employed at the Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company for 32 years. He also worked at Molstead Motors for several years and enjoyed working all his life as a farm hand. Willie was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Amvets. His interests included gardening and farming.

Living family members include his wife, Beverly Sears of Charles City; a brother, Merlin Sears of Charles City; and four sisters, Marion Caldwell and Margaret Torkelson both of Harmony, Minn., Faye Pederson of LaCrosse, Wis., Karen (Terry) Walker of Lake City, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

David William Markle

David William Markle passed away on May 12 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, after an nine year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastors Dennis Niezwaag and Ruth Yeaton officiating. Burial will be at the New Hampton City Cemetery at 1 PM. Military Honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4-8 PM Wednesday. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church an hour prior to the service.

David was born on July 14, 1929 at St. Joseph Hospital in New Hampton, the first child of Fred H. and Bessie L. (Olson) Markle. He attended New Hampton Schools, graduating in 1947.

In 1950 he married Betty Lou Knutson at the Jerico Lutheran Church. Two children were born of this union. Betty passed away in 1993. In 1998, he married former New Hampton High School classmate, Dolores Zipse Boerschel at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City.

Dave was baptized both Methodist and Baptist. He was confirmed by adult confirmation at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Greene. He was a former congregational president at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and was a current member and former congregational president at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. He was active on many church boards. Since 1998, he also had attended the First Baptist Church in Charles City.

During High School, Dave worked for his father at Markle Implement (International) in New Hampton and worked on tractors for local farmers. After graduation, he worked for Henning Implement and Raush Trucking. Dave served his country in the Korean Conflict. In 1955 he opened his own Service Station, “Dave’s DX” in New Hampton. In 1957 he joined Dale Ott and the Ford Tractor Company in Charles City and Greene, where he had moved to in 1962. That business was destroyed by the tornado in 1968, with Dave sustaining two fractured ankles in the tornado. In 1968 he joined Clint Richards in opening a John Deere Dealership in Charles City. He moved from Greene to Charles City in 1978, and he and Betty “retired” in 1983, giving him over 30 years in the implement business.

Retirement heralded a new frenzy of work and volunteerism. He won the Republican bid for Floyd County Supervisor in 1986 and served in that capacity for 4 years. He was very proud to serve on the Floyd County Memorial Hospital’s Board of Commissioners for many years. In 1991 he began assisting with funeral home duties at Hage Funeral Home in Charles City, and continued when it became a part of the Fullerton Family of Funeral Homes. He also assisted with Fontanelle Hybrid in equipment design, planting, and harvesting.

In 1994, Dave was honored to receive the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce “Man of the Year” Award. Dave was a member or former member of many area organizations: Charles City Chamber of Commerce, Noon Kiwanis, Moose Lodge, Parkinson Support Group, District Representative-Elderbridge, Floyd County Historical Society, Foster Grandparent Board Chairman, Chair of Floyd County Memorial Hospital Commissioners, Interim Administrator for Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Hospice Advisory Board Chairman, City of Charles City Road Task Force, FFA, NAICC Ag. Advisory Board, Floyd-Mitchell Landfill Agency, District Rep to State Supervisors Assoc and State Dept of Corrections, Area Development Association, Co-chair of Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board, Chair Emergency Food and Shelter Board, EMS Board, Floyd County Ambulance Board, Chair Hazardous Material Board, Chair Human Services Board, Comprehensive Systems Recycling Committee, Floyd County MERV Committee, Floyd County Farm Safety Camp, Lutheran Social Services Empowerment Grant Program, and Floyd County Steam Engine Day Volunteer. He was a former Councilman for the Greene City Council.

In his free time, Dave enjoyed spending time with friends fishing in Canada and hunting in Wyoming, playing cards, reading, or traveling. His declining health required him to move to the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in November, 2007.

Dave is survived by his wife Dolores, daughter Barbara (Larry) Tommingo of Charles City, son Bruce (Sonia) Markle of Gainesville, Texas, stepsons Bryan Boerschel of Peachtree City, Georgia, and Bruce (Viva) Boerschel of Charles City. Also surviving is one brother, Donald (Charlotte) Markle of New Hampton. Other survivors include stepbrother-in-law Harry (Vivian) Zipse of New Hampton, stepsister-in-law Ardella Morrison of Spring Hill, Florida, sister-in-laws Martha Knutson Hoelter of San Francisco, California and Lora Knutson Zeinun of Nogalas, Arizona.

Dave’s grandchildren include Tyler, Conner, and Carson Markle, step- grandchildren Laurie (Joe) Darnell, Alyssa Tommingo, Bobby (Erin) Boerschel, Becky (Jeremy) Bahe. There are also numerous nieces and nephews. He shared a birthday with special grandnephew Hunter Carey, son of Scott and Lori (Markle) Carey of New Hampton.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife, and a sister, Annabell Rowe Henderson.

Memorials may be directed to the family, to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church or the First Baptist Church of Charles City, Floyd County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, or to the National Parkinson’s Association.

Scott H. McInroy

Scott H. McInroy, 43, of Jacksonville, Fla., died May 2, 2008, at his home in Jacksonville. Private family memorial services for Scott McInroy will be held at a later date.

Scott Howard McInroy was born July 1, 1964, at Charles City, the son of Lenard and Marilyn (Alden) McInroy. He graduated from the Charles City High School and from Hawkeye Tech Community College with an Associates Degree in Graphic Design. He also attended NIACC with additional course work. Scott worked at the Charles City Comprehensive Systems, Des Moines JuvenileDetention Center, Airborn Express in Atlanta, Hershal Harrington Lighting Studio in Atlanta, Carousel Dentistry in Chapel Hills, N.C.Home Center in Jacksonville, Fla. His interests included painting, drawing, cooking, baking, dancing, playing tennis and softball, weight lifting, spending time with family and friends and restoring furniture. Scott became one of the leading U.S. restorers of carousel horses while working at Hershel Harrington Lighting Studios. He also used this skill in meticulously and beautifully restoring several houses. Scott will be greatly missed and loved by his family and friends. and Lowe’s

Dale A. Weiler

Dale A. Weiler, 93, of Charles City, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Manner Care in Waterloo.

Funeral services for Dale Weiler will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church in Charles City. Pastor Phil Corr will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday.

Dale Alton Weiler was born September, 18, 1914, at Arlington, the son of Jess and Jessie (Thompson) Weiler. He graduated from the Charles City High School. On January 14, 1939 he was united in marriage to Theresa Eckoff in Waterloo. Theresa died in 1973. He later married Leda Hennick Galloway on October 19, 1974, at the First Congregational Church in Charles City. Leda died in 2001. Along with farming Dale retired from White / Oliver Farm after 37 years as a tool and die maker. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Knights of Pythias, and the U.A.W. His interests included current events, playing cards, listening to music, traveling, farming, his membeship in the Knights of Pythias and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Living family members include his daughter, Karla (Don) Hartman of Evensdale; two grandchildren, Marie (Doug) Frenz of Fort Madison and Russell (Ronda) Boekemeier of Rockford; three great grandchildren, Anthony and Stephanie Frenz and Curtis Boekemeier; two nieces, Sandra Figi of Waterloo and Sandra Stoeber of Calif.; and four nephews, Jan Figi of Westgate, Alan Fluhrer of Calif., Gary Fluhrer of Seattle, Wash. and Randy Stoeber of Calif.

Proceeded in death by his parents; two wives; and one sister, Geraldine, Figi.

Anies Hillson

Anies Hillson, 81, of Charles City, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Anies Hillson will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Carl Ries, pastor, and Reverend Brian Shepley will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday where there will be a Rosary recited at 4:30 p.m. and a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m.

Anies Clara DeMets Hillson was born February 10, 1927, at Ellendale, Minn. the daughter of Achiel and Bertha (DeJonkere) DeMets. She graduated from Austin High School at Austin, Minn. On June 3, 1948, she was united in marriage to Donald Hillson at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, Minn. In 1949 they moved to Charles City. From 1945 to 1948 Anies was employed with Federated Mutual Insurance in Owatonna, Minn. and from 1968 to 1989 she worked in the food service program at the Charles City Community Schools. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Saint Catherine Circle and Rosary Society. Anies and Donald loved to fish, spending summer vacations from 1967-2001 at Lake Kabetogama in northern Minnesota. She loved baking and doing crafts; crocheting afghans and doing plastic canvas Christmas ornaments and many other things. Anies always looked forward to spending time with her family and sharing their lives together. She will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Living family members include four children, Tom (Glenda) Hillson of Ames, Steve (Joan) Hillson of Owasso, Okla., David (Cynthia) Hillson of Mooresville, N.C. and Denise (Steve) Long of Alameda, Calif.; 9 grandchildren, Tom (Maggie) Hillson, Angela, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Katie, Kristin, Hannah and Abbey Hillson and Max Long; and a great grandson, Chance Hillson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald, on January 3, 2008; two brothers, Maurice and Leo DeMets; and two sisters, Laura Becker and Bernice Weum.

Mary Helen Clark

Mary Helen Clark, age 90 of Redwood Fall, MN formerly of Nashua, died Wednesday afternoon April 30, 2008, at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Nashua.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 4th at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Online condolences for Mary may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com

Mary was born April 18, 1918, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the daughter of Kaleb and Julia Saleba. She was a 1939 graduate of Mount Mercy School of Nursing in Portsmouth, Ohio. She met her husband while working at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Clayton W. Clark M.D. and Mary were united in marriage October 29, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas. She returned to Portsmouth when Clay was sent to the Pacific after serving at several bases in Texas. The couple came to Nashua, Iowa after the war in 1946 on a temporary basis and stayed for 62 years.

Mary was a stay at home mom who was actively involved in the lives of her family. She was a great cook, with an awesome chocolate cookie recipe. She was a member of the Nashua United Methodist Church and the U.M.C. Women for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, worked as a substitute school nurse and at the Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City. She also worked in her husband's medical clinic when needed.

Mary was an avid golfer until the age of 86. She continued to play bridge, bingo and slot machines until her death. Travel was also a large part of her life; camping trips and international travel. Mary had just celebrated her 90th birthday in Nashua with a large gathering of family and friends. Knowing that in Heaven it's always a great day to be on the golf course, that the sun is shining warmly and Mary is in the presence of her loved ones comforts the family.

She is survived by her four children, John (Barbara) Clark of Dallas, TX, Robert (Deborah) Clark of Frisco, TX, Marcia Todd of Kansas City, MO and Julia (Michael) Salmon of Redwood Falls, MN; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Grace Saleba of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C. W. Clark on June 7, 1981; and a granddaughter, Mary Todd.

Lester G. Hirsch


Lester G. Hirsch, 87, of Charles City, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Floyd County Medical Center, in Charles City.

Funeral services for Lester Hirsch will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor LaVonne Kaasa of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Military Honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.

Lester George Hirsch was born March 11, 1921, in rural Charles City, the son of Charles and Maggie (Heitz) Hirsch. He received his education in Charles City and graduated in 1939. In 1942, Lester entered the Army, being honorably discharged in 1946. Lester farmed all of his life and also worked at Becker Home Improvement in Charles City for 25 years. He was a member of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church and American Legion. His interests included wood working, planting flowers and his love for farming.

Lester is survived by his wife of 37 years, Arla “Ginger” Hirsch of Charles City; step-daughter, Sandy Harang of Des Moines; two step-sons, Larry (Sandy) Brown of Cedar Park, Tex. and Scott (Rhonda) Brown of Elk Mound, Wis.; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one nephew, Larry Hirsch; and one niece, Norma Hirsch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Kimberly Harang; one son-in-law, David Harang; three sisters, Ruby Lokenvitz, Dorothy Hirsch and Gladys Hirsch; one brother, Milton Hirsch; Alice Hirsch.
