Betty L. LaCoste


Betty L. LaCoste, 82 of Charles City, died Thursday, January 29, 2009, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Betty LaCoste will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor Gary Van Wert will officiate. Interment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 3 to 5p.m. on Sunday. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Betty Lou Turnbull LaCoste was born December 2, 1926, at Mason City, the daughter of Bert and Lula (Taylor) Turnbull. She graduated from the Rockford High School in 1945. During her lifetime Betty was employed as a clerk at Bowen's Grocery Store in Rockford and as a nurse's aid at Good Shepard, Nora Springs Care Center and the Rockford Nursing Home. On February 14, 1981, she was united in marriage to Gilbert "Gib" LaCoste. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the U.M.W. Church Circle. Her interests included crocheting, crafts, gardening, flowers and dancing especially square dancing.

Living family members include her three children, Carol (Larry) Schriever of Floyd, Michael (Sherry) Winters of Osage and Keith (Michelle) Warner of Rockford; eight grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great-great grandson, Ethan Gates; two sisters, Lucille Swender and Pearl Davison; and three brothers, Roger, Clifford and Donald Turnbull.
