Douglas M. Alderman, 69, of Charles City, died Monday, January 19, 2009, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Services for Douglas Alderman will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Sister M. Diana Blong, PBVM, Pastoral Associate, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.
The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Douglas Malcolm Alderman was born June 4, 1939, at Charles City, the son of Claude and Frances (Cross) Alderman. He received his education from the Charles City Community Schools. On April 4, 1970, he was united in marriage to Beverly Merrill at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Douglas was employed at Sherman Nursery in Charles City for about 26 years. He was life time member of the Moose Lodge, Senior Center and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. His interests included swimming at the YMCA, bowling and watching Hawkeye Sports.
Living family members include four nieces, Jennifer (Jamie) Sliger of Nora Springs, Stephanie (John) Paulus of Rockford, Rachel (Jamie) Jackson of Plymouth and Mavis (Jim) Owens of Alaska; nephew, Donavan Nehls, Jr.; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Cleota Kraupa and Mavis Nehls; brother, Arlan Alderman; and a niece, Gail Uker.
