Vivian F. Brennan, 80, of Mason City, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.
Funeral services for Vivian Brennan will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Wanda Hagman, Elder of the Community of Christ in Clear Lake will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.
Vivian Frances Gernhart Brennan was born, September 3, 1928, at Sioux City, the daughter of Oliver and Amy (Calhoon) Gernhart. In 1946 she graduated from the Moorland High School near Fort Dodge. On April 8, 1951, she was united in marriage to Bernard Brennan at Coalville. They later divorced. Vivian babysat throughout her whole life. She was a member of the Community of Christ (RLDS) in Clear Lake, American Legion Auxiliary, Wa-tan-ye, Just Friends and was a Foster Grandparent for seven years. Her interests included crafts, drawing, baking, shopping, reading, putting puzzles together, playing cards, socializing and spending time with her grandchildren.
Living family members include her children, Joe Brennan of Charles City, Bernie Brennan of Mason City, Neal (Tammie) Brennan of Plymouth, Sandra (Richard) Wilde of Osage and Debi Simmerson of High Point, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Lou Brennan of Charles City; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Forrest) Lawson of Sparks, Nev.; and a brother, George Gernhart of Kalamazoo, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, William on February 21, 2007; two sisters, Nettie and Nancy; four brothers, Jack, Jim, Bill and Fred; and a great-grandchild.
