Daniel D. Smith, 46, of Charles City, died Friday morning, June 19, 2009, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Memorial services for Daniel Smith will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor Gary Van Wert and Pastor Jim Stiles will officiate. Inurnment will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Wednesday.

Daniel Dean Smith was born December 3, 1962, at Charles City, the son of Dennis and Joan (Stiles) Smith. He graduated from the Charles City High School and NIACC in Mason City. Dan was employed at the Cedar Ridge Golf Course for 22 years and at the Comet Bowl both in Charles City. His interests included golf and bowling.

Living family members include his special friend, Marie Griffin of Charles City; son, Ryan Olson and his fiancée, Jessica of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Cael Olson of Cedar Rapids; parents, Dennis and Joan Smith of Charles City; brother, Ronald (Barbara) Smith of Charles City; two step-children, Jamie Griffin and Joshua Griffin both of Charles City; five step-grandchildren, Jasmine Miller, Corden Poyner, Jayden Poyner, Isabell Griffin and Marcus Griffin all of Charles City; six nieces, Shawna Smith, Kayla Smith, Cathy Johnson, Samantha Simpson, Autumn Simpson and Serena Simpson; and many aunts; uncles; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family where they will be donated to the Cedar Ridge Golf Course and Wildwood Golf Course.
