Mildred Block

Mildred Block, 98, formerly of 202 2nd Avenue in Charles City, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June10, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 200 Main Street S, in Charles City, with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in Charles City. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street, Charles City, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Burns Institute, the Salvation Army or to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Mildred was born on December 5, 1910 in Floyd County, Iowa, the daughter of Otto C. and Minnie P. (Ebert) Krumrey. She attended Charles City High School, graduating in 1928. Mildred was united in marriage to Virgil R. Block on August 22, 1943 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Virgil passed away on November 7, 1992. Mildred retired from White Farm after 36 years of service. She had been an assistant cashier and then a secretary in the Engineering Department. She was involved with many organizations. She was a member of St. John’s, the Charles City Women’s Club, the Rural Letter Carrier Auxiliary and the CNB Heritage Club.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Viola Bartlett of Joplin, Missouri; her great niece, Kimberly Bartlett; and many good friends.
