Edmund C. Gleason, Sr.

Edmund C. Gleason, Sr., 86, of Charles City, died Friday evening, September 25, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
A funeral Mass for Edmund Gleason will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. followed by a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Thursday.
Edmund Charles Gleason was born August 12, 1923 to Raymond Sr. and Mina (Olsen) Gleason in Ruthven, Iowa. He graduated from Ruthven High School in 1940, attended Wofford University in South Carolina and served with the 1258th Engineer Combat Battalion in WWII Germany and at the Battle of the Bulge. He moved to Charles City in 1946 and on January 4, 1947, he married Margaret “Peggy” Gilbaugh. He was a Product Engineer at Oliver (later White Farm Equipment) for over 35 years. He was a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, Wildwood Golf Course and Moose Lodge. He loved golfing, dancing, bowling, reading, fishing and his family.
Survivors include his wife Peggy; children Vicki (Roger) Clemons, Waterloo, IA, Larry Gleason (Valerie Williams), Ames, IA, Julie (Mike) Sherraden, Kingwood, TX, Steve (Barb) Gleason, Charles City, IA, Diane (Duane) White, Waverly, IA and Edmund Jr. “Ned” Gleason, Charles City, IA; brother and sisters Maureen Weir, Ruthven, IA, Tom Gleason, Pleasanton, CA, Mary Beth “Betty” Grady, Lynwood, WA; sister-in-law Helen (Lloyd) Rekow, Seattle, WA; 9 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson and numerous nephews and nieces.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Frank, Joseph and Raymond Jr.
