Geraldine “Gerry” Knudsvig

Geraldine “Gerry” Knudsvig, 86, of Charles City, died Sunday, September 20, 2009, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
A funeral Mass for Gerry Knudsvig will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Stanley Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.
Visitation will be held at the church from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Geraldine Eunice Bonfig Knudsvig was born April 30, 1923, at Ossian, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (Timp) Bonfig. She graduated from St. Francis De Sales in Ossian and Pitz’s Beauty School in Waterloo. On Octuber 20, 1945, she was united in marriage to Ernest Knudsvig at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Ossian. They moved to Charles City in 1948 where they owned a Beauty Salon for many years, enjoying working together. After they retired they would travel to Arizona to spend their winters. They loved to dance, and enjoyed fishing in Freeport, Minn., and on the Mississippi with friends. She also enjoyed playing all kinds of card games and golfing.
Survivors include two friends, known as “her girls” ; Lorna Berk and Liz (Richard) Dawson and their families both of Charles City; two nieces, Marlene (Virgel) Theisen and Shirley (Ron) Gansen; and a nephew, Ronnie (Maggie) Bonfig.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on May 4, 2002; and a brother.
