Velva Meyer


Velva Meyer, 88, of Charles City, died Saturday, September 5, 2009, at her home.

Funeral services for Velva Meyer will be held10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag, of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue Thursday an hour prior to the service.

Velva Lorraine Lincke Meyer was born August 28, 1921, in Osage, the daughter of Emil and Amanda (Horgen) Lincke. She graduated from the Osage High School in 1938. On January 25, 1942, she was united in marriage to Melvin Meyer at Osage. Over the years Velva worked at Osage Produce, the Colwell School, 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Forest Lawn Cemetery, as a hostess at Hauser Funeral Home for several years and as a Foster Grandparent. She was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eastern Star, V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Women of the Moose.

Living family members include four children, Sondra (Lawrence) Coen of Charles City, Linda (Bernard) Krall of Loveland, Colo, Dennis (Wanda) Meyer of Elma and Dana Meyer of Charles City; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Kristiansen of Cedar Rapids and Edna Stott of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on May 26, 1976; a son, Jan Meyer; a brother, Glenn Lincke and a sister, Audrey Lincke.
