Wilbur Daake
Wilbur Daake, 95, of Charles City, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at his residence.
Memorial services for Wilbur Daake will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Robert Holdorf, of the West St. Charles United Methodist Church, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.
Wilbur Robert Daake was born October 12, 1913, on the Daake family farm in Floyd County, the son of Adolph and Martha (Schmidt) Daake. He graduated from the Charles City High School. On May 29, 1940, he was united in marriage to Edna Colwell at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed all their lives on the Daake family farm. Wilbur was a member of the Flood Creek/West St. Charles United Methodist Church and the Knights of Pythias. His primary interests were any that included family, fishing, golfing, playing cards and traveling. At home Wilbur enjoyed watching baseball and playing solitaire.
Living family members include a son, Dennis Daake of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two granddaughters, Samantha Daake and Jeanette (Chris) Illingworth; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Reuben Daake; and two sisters, Mildred Kielsmeier and Elsie Marth.
