Edith M. Bill

Edith M. Bill, 92, of Greene, formerly of Charles City, died Friday, October 23, 2009, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.
Funeral services for Edith Bill will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, 324 E. Traer St. Greene, IA 50636. Pastor Gary Hatcher will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Visitation will continue an hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
Edith Marie Chambers was born December 2, 1916, in Floyd County, the daughter of Glenn and Nellie (Hildebrand) Chambers. She graduated from the Colwell High School. On March 6, 1937, she was united in marriage to Lester Bill at Charles City. From 1937 to 1951, Edith and her husband farmed in Floyd County. Edith was later employed at the Charles City Junior High School as a cook and later as a custodian at the Lincoln and Washington Schools in Charles City. Her interests included quilting, gardening, flowers, fishing, baking, especially pies and spending time with her grandchildren.
Living family members include her eight children, Jerry (Kathleen) Bill of Charles City, Duane (Patricia) Bill of Fort Dodge, Raymond (Betty) Bill of Greene, Roger (Connie) Bill of St. Charles, Marilyn (Richard) Bromley of Evanston, Ill., Barbara Hansen of Fulton, Ky., Dianna (David) Boehmer of Genoa, Ill. and Dolly (Doug) Chesnut of Iowa City; 27 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Marian Meek of Rochester, Minn. and Dorothy Bill of Riceville; and three brothers, Wesley Chambers of Colwell, Lewis (Margaret) Chambers of Marble Rock and Clayton (Rosemary) Chambers of Marble Rock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Edna Ferch; and two brothers, John Chambers and Roy Chambers.
