Lloyd James Christensen


Lloyd Christensen, 86, of Charles City, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, at his home.

Memorial services for Lloyd Christensen will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Gospel Lighthouse in Floyd. Pastor Paul Phillips will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

The family will greet friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

Lloyd James Christensen was born June 4, 1923, at Waterloo, the son of James and Viola (Brooks) Christensen. He graduated from West Waterloo High School. Lloyd proudly served in the United States Marines during World War II. In 1949 he married Elsie Bombach. They later divorced. Lloyd then married Maria Estrada in 1989. They later divorced. For many years Lloyd worked as a tool and die maker at Schoitz Engineering in Waterloo. His interests included boating, water skiing, bicycling, hiking and ballroom dancing.

Living family members include two daughters, Linda (Terry) Parsons of Charles City and Janet (William) Kendall-Post of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Matthew (Sara) Parsons, Mark (Angie) Parsons, Bradley (Kim) Kendall and Elizabeth (Phillip) Richards; four great grandchildren, Anastasia, Angelica, Dylan and Kylie Parsons; and a brother, Monte Christensen of Jacksonville, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Gladys Ritter.
