Lori Regenold


Lori Regenold, 54, of Charles City, died Friday, October 30, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, of a massive heart attack.

Memorial services for Lori Regenold will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor David Werges. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 Monday. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Lori Jo Trihub Regenold was born May 17, 1955, at Minot, N.D., the daughter of Lloyd and Alvera (Locken) Trihub. She graduated from Berthold Public School in Berthold, N.D. Lori lived in Charles City with her husband Paul Regenold. They enjoyed working together on remodeling their homes, traveling and experiencing new things. She once worked for UPS in Minot, N.D. and was currently a well loved teacher’s aide in Charles City. As a down to earth giving soul, Lori thrived on the simple things in life. She was loved by all who knew her. Lori was once married to Charles Miller and from that union two wonderful sons were born. Lori loved motherhood and was filled with joy when she became a Grandmother. Her loving family and giving to others where some of the greatest aspects of her life. As a final example of Lori’s giving spirit, she has chosen to donate her organs, furthering the lives of many people. Organ recovering took place Sunday. She will be greatly missed.

Living family members include her husband, Paul Regenold of Charles City; two sons, Travis Miller and Derrick Miller both of Sawyer, N.D.; a granddaughter, Hailee Miller; two step children, Danette (David Kasper) Regenold of Rosemount, MN. and Brian (Tammie) Regenold of Hudson; five step grandchildren, two brothers, Larry Trihub of Tioga, N.D. and Lance Trihub of Bismarck, N.D.; three sisters, Lana (Gerald) Bruels of Bismarck, N.D., LaRae (Randy) Templeton of Minot, N.D. and Lynette (Kevin) Thompson of Almont, N.D. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Lloyd James Christensen


Lloyd Christensen, 86, of Charles City, died Thursday, October 29, 2009, at his home.

Memorial services for Lloyd Christensen will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Gospel Lighthouse in Floyd. Pastor Paul Phillips will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

The family will greet friends at the church an hour prior to the service.

Lloyd James Christensen was born June 4, 1923, at Waterloo, the son of James and Viola (Brooks) Christensen. He graduated from West Waterloo High School. Lloyd proudly served in the United States Marines during World War II. In 1949 he married Elsie Bombach. They later divorced. Lloyd then married Maria Estrada in 1989. They later divorced. For many years Lloyd worked as a tool and die maker at Schoitz Engineering in Waterloo. His interests included boating, water skiing, bicycling, hiking and ballroom dancing.

Living family members include two daughters, Linda (Terry) Parsons of Charles City and Janet (William) Kendall-Post of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Matthew (Sara) Parsons, Mark (Angie) Parsons, Bradley (Kim) Kendall and Elizabeth (Phillip) Richards; four great grandchildren, Anastasia, Angelica, Dylan and Kylie Parsons; and a brother, Monte Christensen of Jacksonville, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Gladys Ritter.

Judith I. Lane


Judith I. Lane, 66, of Charles City, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Judith Lane will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Gary VanWert will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Judith Irene Lovejoy Lane was born August 30, 1943, at Osage, the daughter of Wilder and Fama (McFarland) Lovejoy. She received her education at Osage. On August 6, 1960, she was united in marriage to Warren “John” Lane at Osage. Over the years Judith worked at Salsbury Laboratories, the Charles City Press, the Choo-Choo, and for 17 years at Comprehensive Systems retiring in July of 2007. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and Charles City Bowling Association where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000. Her interests included bowling, camping, crocheting, baking, gardening, bird watching, decorating for the holidays and playing games with the grandchildren.

Living family members include her husband, John Lane of Charles City; two daughters, Theresa “Teri” (Jeff) Lokenvitz of Charles City and Annette (Bobby Herman) Lane of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Bradley Lokenvitz, Matthew Lokenvitz and fiancee Kelsey Houghtaling, Sarah Lokenvitz and Diana Lane and fiance Justin Dodson; and a great grandson due in December.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Lovejoy; and a sister, Norma Moen.

Carlyle “Bill” Thomas


Carlyle “Bill” Thomas, 79, of Charles City, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at his home in Charles City.

Carlyle Edmer Thomas was born September 11, 1930, at Austin, Minn., the son of Claire “Dewey” and Laura (Dall) Morris. He graduated from high school in Austin, Minn. Bill served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954, where he served on the USS Rockwell. On December 1, 1956 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Belden at the Queen of Angels in Austin, Minn. He was employed at Oliver/White Farm until 1986. Bill was then employed at Lloyd Management in Dodge Center and Mankato, Minn. until he retired in 1999. He was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, life-time member of the V.F.W. in Austin, Minn. and the American Legion in Dodge Center, Minn. His interests included woodworking, building toys, fishing, pheasant hunting, crossword puzzles and polka dancing.

Living family members include his wife, Elizabeth Thomas of Charles City; six children, Carla (Dave) Bjork of Spirit Lake, Micheal Thomas of Freeport, Ill., Bill (Debra) Thomas of Nevada, Ill., Tina (Kevin) Patterson of Charles City, Eric (Hong) Thomas of Chaingrai, Thailand and Laura (Jim) Janssen of Floyd; special sister-in-law, Judy Viers of Greene; 14 grandchildren, Antonia Turvold and special friend, Josh Parsons, Tiffany (Dustin) Nobel, Jodee (Andrew) Vickerman, Megan Patterson, Timothy (Stephanie) Thomas, Carlyle Thomas, Adam (Ashley) Thomas, Bobby Thomas, Cory Janssen, Andrew Janssen, Joseph Janssen, Alexis Thomas, Damien Thomas and Amanda Thomas; 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley Krueger of Baldwin, Ga.

Robert H. Auringer


Robert H. Auringer, 93, of Floyd, died Saturday, October 24, 2009, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.

Funeral services for Robert Auringer will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. Pastor Robert Holdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Floyd. There will be a flag presentation and taps by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Robert Harold Auringer was born July 13, 1916, at Bonair, the son of Paul and Stella (Setchell) Auringer. He graduated from the Charles City High School. He was then employed at the Oliver Corporation and Grossman Funeral Home. On March 4, 1943, he was united in marriage to Madalyn Slack at Charles City. Robert served in the United States Army Air Corp. during WWII. After the war, he farmed north of Floyd and from 1954 to 1973 he owned and operated Auringer Grocery. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd. His interests included working, fishing, fixing things, traveling, reading, playing cards music and he loved children.

Living family members include his two children, Char (Gene) Lubbert of Nora Springs and Stu Auringer of Mason City; daughter-in-law, Debra Auringer of Floyd; five grandchildren, Denise (Brian) Wilkins, Jodi (Scott) Rippentrop, Kathy Lubbert, Bart Auringer and Emilie (Chad) McMurray; eight great grandchildren, Ashley, Alyssa, Dillon, Emma, Lauren, Dustin, Taylor and Zachary; brother, Max Auringer of Albuquerque, N.M.; sister, June Stephens of Charles City; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Pat Rake of Osage.

Edith M. Bill


Edith M. Bill, 92, of Greene, formerly of Charles City, died Friday, October 23, 2009, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

Edith Marie Chambers was born December 2, 1916, in Floyd County, the daughter of Glenn and Nellie (Hildebrand) Chambers. She graduated from the Colwell High School. On March 6, 1937, she was united in marriage to Lester Bill at Charles City. From 1937 to 1951, Edith and her husband farmed in Floyd County. Edith was later employed at the Charles City Junior High School as a cook and later as a custodian at the Lincoln and Washington Schools in Charles City. Her interests included quilting, gardening, flowers, fishing, baking, especially pies and spending time with her grandchildren.

Living family members include her eight children, Jerry (Kathleen) Bill of Charles City, Duane (Patricia) Bill of Fort Dodge, Raymond (Betty) Bill of Greene, Roger (Connie) Bill of St. Charles, Marilyn (Richard) Bromley of Evanston, Ill., Barbara Hansen of Fulton, Ky., Dianna (David) Boehmer of Genoa, Ill. and Dolly (Doug) Chesnut of Iowa City; 27 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Marian Meek of Rochester, Minn. and Dorothy Bill of Riceville; and three brothers, Wesley Chambers of Colwell, Lewis (Margaret) Chambers of Marble Rock and Clayton (Rosemary) Chambers of Marble Rock.

Ralph “Jack” Johnson


Ralph “Jack” Johnson died Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Ralph Lester Johnson was born March 30, 1923, in Floyd County, the son of Ralph W. and Nellie (Thompson) Johnson. He received his education at the Bassett School. Ralph proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. On April 11, 1948, he was united in marriage to Jessie Warren. Jessie died on June 30, 1962. Jack married JoAnn Shrope on September 22, 1962. JoAnn died on October 26, 2006. During his working career he worked for several companies including Condon Brothers and New Haven for 25 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Jack enjoyed a great day of fishing. His family and especially his grandchildren meant a lot to Jack and he took every opportunity to share his life with them.

Living family members include a daughter, Mary Lou (Wally) Reams of Charles City; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Geerts, Ginger (Corey) Schmidt and Lindsay Reams; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; two brothers, Jim and Vic Johnson; and four sisters, Lelia Rodamaker, Wilma Reinhardt, Viola Babcock and Opal Martin.

Mildred “Mid” Mead


Mildred “Mid” Mead, 90, of Charles City, died Saturday, October 17, 2009, at her home.

Mildred Lorraine Mead was born April 9, 1919, at Charles City, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Sauer) Miller. She graduated from the Charles City High School. On June 22, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold Mead at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They lived all their lives in Charles City. Mid was a homemaker and devoted mother. She was an 80 year member of the First Baptist Church, where she was active in the Armstrong Circle, American Baptist Women and enjoyed singing with the praise team and choir. Other memberships included the Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary where she faithfully volunteered as a “pink lady” for many years. Mid will be remembered as one who always gave of herself and time to help others.

Living family members include two children, Beverly Anderson of Knoxville, Tenn. and Jerry Mead of Charles City and Judy Mead of Kansas City, Mo; five grandchildren, Lori (Dale) Montgomery, Wendi Rague, Beau Christopher (Ann) Mead, Tatum Mead and Brody Mead; three great grandchildren, Madison Montgomery, Zach Rague and Alaina Ann Mead; a brother, Andrew (Mavis) Miller, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on January 3, 2008; a son-in-law, Tom Anderson in 2003; and four sisters, Emma Moon, Elsie Miller, Viola Rothfuss and Blanche Meyers.

Kenneth Leslie


Kenneth Leslie, 37, of Charles City, died Saturday, October 17, 2009, at his residence.

Kenneth Lee Leslie was born April 8, 1972, at Charles City, the son of Russel and Mary (Hermen) Leslie. He attended high school in Charles City. On January 11, 1992 he was united in marriage to Jennifer Dana. Kenneth worked various jobs including as a roofer with Midwest Roofing. His interests included watching movies, bowling, hunting, fishing and camping at Clear Lake. He also looked forward to spending time with his family.

Living family members include his wife, Jennifer of Charles City; 5 children, Heather, LeeAnna, Miranda, Kenneth, Jr. and Elizabeth all at home; his mother, Mary Leslie of Nashua; two brothers, Marion Leslie of Nashua and Michcal (Myssi) Leslie of Waverly and a close friend Jim Foster who he loved as a brother; four sisters, Maria (Dan) Janssen and Margaret Leslie both of Nashua, Janice (Gary) Thompson of Charles City and Ann Foster of New Hampton; many nieces and nephews including Shawn Janssen, Tim Thompson and JW Ward.

He was preceded in death by his father; a son, KJ Leslie; and a sister, Katherine Leslie.

Orpha Ellefson


Orpha Ellefson, 99, of Charles City, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A funeral service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 705 3rd Ave. in Charles City on Saturday, October 24 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jane Keel officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the Osage Cemetery. Orpha was born on April 20, 1910 in Monona, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Eunice (Jenkins) Flack. She was united in marriage to Sigvart Ellefson on April 14, 1927 at the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in Dalby, Iowa. She and her family lived in Osage from the mid 1930’s until her husband’s death in 1967, after which she moved to Charles City. Orpha had worked at the Cedar Valley Egg Plant in Osage during World War II, the Osage North End Grocery, Helen’s Dress Shop in Osage, and the South Side Supermarket in Charles City.

Orpha was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage and the Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City. She loved to crochet, cook and do canning. Most of all she enjoyed all of her family whom she would help in any way.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Gloria Skuster and Shirley Guthart, both of Charles City; grandchildren, John (Chris) Guthart of Charles City, Vicky (Mark) Holler of Estes Park, CO, Dan Guthart of Charles City, Eric (Patty) Skuster of Waverly, David (Janis) Skuster of Stewartville, MN, Paul (Ann) Skuster of Charles City, Timothy (Denise) Skuster and William (Sally) Skuster of Salt Lake City, UT; 15 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Glenn Pyle


Glenn Pyle, 88, of Charles City, died Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Glenn Richard Pyle was born October 23, 1920, in Floyd County, the son of Earl and Susie (Poncin) Pyle. He graduated from Charles City High School. Glenn proudly served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II in the European theater. On October 8, 1941, he married Betty Schilling at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union three children, Galen, Ginger and Sally were born. They later divorced. Glenn then married Susan Ranney. Glenn worked for Western Buyers as a hog buyer for 40 years and opened his own buying station in 1980. He and Susan wintered for the past 25 years in Rio Grande Valley, Tex. Glenn was an avid card player, fisherman and golfer. He also followed the Charles City girls softball teams for years.

Living family members include his wife, Susan Pyle of Charles City; three children, Galen (Bernice) Pyle of San Antonio, Tex., Ginger Meyer of Charles City; and Sally Short of San Jose, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Jason (Carolyn) Meyer, Brianna Meyer and special friend Chris Freiberg, Ryan Short, Stephan (Amy) Pyle, Janelle (Lindsey) Williams, Michelle (Ryan) Vener and Christine (Paul) Dyer; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Eldon Pyle.

Hulda Lindaman


Hulda Lindaman, 91, of Charles City, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Cedar Health in Charles City.

A private family service will be held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City with Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Hulda was born on December 18, 1917 in Charles City, the daughter of Edward and Martha (Volbrecht) Togstad. She lived in Charles City most of her life, graduating from Charles City High School, where she met her future husband, Ben Lindaman. Hulda attended business school in Madison, Wisconsin for two years. She was united in marriage to Ben on February 26, 1944 in Los Angeles, California, where he was stationed during World War II. After Ben’s discharge from the Coast Guard, the couple moved back to Charles City. Hulda began working as a secretary at Lindemere Dairy, and then at White Farm for many years before retiring in 1980.

Hulda was very active at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church where she had been a member of the Church Board and the Altar Guild. She was also involved in the Women’s Club and played cards in a Bridge Club. She also loved to sew and knit, making many wonderful creations for her family. In her later years, she became a big sports fan, mainly cheering on the teams in the cities where her children lived (Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes). Most of all, Hulda’s life revolved around her family, which provided her with much pride and joy.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jim, Lynn (Anne) and Steve (Becky) Lindaman and Viva (Bruce) Boerschel; grandchildren, Bob (Erin) Boerschel, Becky (Jeremy Bahe) Boerschel, Lauren Lindaman and Benton Lindaman; and great grandchild, Kinleigh Bahe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, in 1967; sisters, Lorna Cade and Jackie Olds; and her parents.

Brad D. Reetz


Brad D. Reetz, 39, of Floyd died Saturday evening, October 10, 2009, at his home in Floyd.

Bradley Dean Reetz was born October 1, 1970, at Charles City, the son of Carlton and Muriel (Johnson) Reetz, Jr. He attended the Cresco High School. On May 18, 1991, he was united in marriage to Lauri Schriever at the Lutheran Church in Elma. Brad was employed at Featherlite Trailers for five years as a paint booth foreman. He was a life-time member of the North American Hunting Club. His interests included fishing, hunting, trapping, four-wheeling, cutting firewood and spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ronald Staudt

Ronald Staudt 67, of Charles City, died Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City after a seven year battle with cancer.

A funeral Mass for Ronald Staudt will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Monsignor Stanley Hayek will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where there will be a Vigil Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Ronald Earl Staudt was born April 20, 1942, in Floyd County, the son of Earl and Dorothy (Schmitt) Staudt. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School at Roseville and graduated from Rockford High School in 1960. On September 4, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mona Riden at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville. They farmed all their lives south of Charles City. Ronald was a steward of the earth, enjoying both grain and livestock farming. He always took great pride in the fact that he supported his family through the family farm. Ronald will always be remembered as a person that appreciated having a well kept farm. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge, where he was a trustee for several years, served on both the Charles City and Immaculate Conception School school boards, and on the board of directors of the Colwell Coop. His interests included woodworking, golfing, bowling, boating, fishing and playing cards. Family, especially his grandchildren, was always important to Ronald and he took every opportunity possible to share his life with them and be a part of everything they were doing.

Living family members include his wife, Mona Staudt of Charles City; four children, Douglas (Susan) Staudt of Cedar Falls, Steven (Nikki) Staudt of Forest City, Charles (Angie) Staudt of Charles City and Renee (Brody) Boss of Charles City; 11 grandchildren, Alexander, William, and Isabelle Staudt, Jake, Abbey, and Gabe Staudt, Drew, Lydia and Lauren Staudt and Margaret and Madeline Boss; his mother, Dorothy Staudt of Charles City; a brother, Roger (Bonita) Staudt of Marble Rock; three sisters, Catherine (I. John) Rossi of West Des Moines, Marlys Staudt of Knoxville, Tenn. and Karen Trettin of Charles City; his mother-in-law, Margaret Riden of Charles City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Kenneth in infancy; a brother-in-law, Michael Trettin; and his father-in-law, Floyd Riden.

Julie Idler Rice


Julie Idler Rice, 58, of Scottsdale, Ariz., died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at her home in Scottsdale, Ariz., following a battle with cancer.

Funeral services for Julie Rice will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.

The family will greet friends at the church on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time.

Julie Rae Idler was born September 15, 1951, at Charles City, the daughter of Leighton and Verna (Klinehart) Idler. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1969. After graduating from Mankato Commercial College, she was employed at University Hospitals in Iowa City as a secretary in the radiology department, where she met her husband, Dr. Alfred Rice. They married on May 27, 1972, at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Julie enjoyed tennis, her tape ministry, traveling, jigsaw puzzles, knitting booties for a crisis pregnancy center, and many other hand working projects. She was a member of the Scottsdale Bible Church.

Living family members include her husband Alfred Rice of Scottsdale, Ariz.; mother, Verna Gray of Charles City; sister, Connie (Frank) Francis of Clare; two nieces, Tracy Reitmeier of Cedar Rapids and Rebecca Reitmeier of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and step-sister, Jean (Bob) Bennett of Storm Lake.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents, Ernest and Martha Klinehart and Ed and Maude Otto; and nephew, Gerald M. White.

Richard A. Tynan, Sr.


Richard A. Tynan, Sr., 61, of Rockford, died Thursday, October 8, 2009, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Richard Tynan, Sr. will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor David Werges of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue an hour before the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Richard Allan Tynan, Sr. was born July 1, 1948, at Charles City, the son of Leo and Barbara (Nelson) Tynan. He graduated from the Council Bluff School for the deaf. On December 15, 1973, he was united in marriage to Diane McDonald in Cedar Rapids. Richard was employed at Allied Construction for over 30 years. After retirement he worked part-time on the night shift at Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Iowa Deaf Club and the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church. His interests included side jobs, fishing, hunting, camping, fixing things, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Living family members include his two children, Richard Tynan, Jr. of Mason City and Racheal (Jeremiah) Ferch of New Hampton; seven grandchildren, Mercedes and Lexus Tynan, Cole, Chelsea, Justice, J.J. and Jesup Ferch; special friend, Patty Mathis of Waukon; many cousins, including Denny Tynan; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents; wife; and infant sister.

Dale W. Cummings

Dale W. Cummings, 95, of Charles City, died Thursday afternoon, October 8, 2009, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Dale William Cummings was born May 2, 1914, at Bassett, the son of Jesse and Pearl (Bonsall) Cummings. He graduated from the Colwell High School in 1933. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Manning. Dale was employed at Hart Par/Oliver Corporation for 44 years as a machine operator and assembly person. He was a member of the NRA, Floyd Gun Club and Floyd Lions Club where he served as past president. His interests included trap shooting, hunting, fishing and work.

Living family members include his two daughters, Sharon (Edgar) Immer of Burnsville, Minn. and Kathy (Steven) Anderson of Minneapolis, Minn.; two step-daughters, Beverly (George) Pospisil of Lisbon and Sharon (Richard) Hill of Angel Fire, N.M.; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; sister, Mary Manning of Charles City; sister-in-law, Wanda Cummings of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.

Violette M. Thompson-Rickerl

Violette M. Thompson-Rickerl, 77, of Charles City, died Monday morning, October 5, 2009, at the Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

Memorial services for Violette Thompson-Rickerl will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor David Werges and Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Inurnment will be in Concord Cemetery, Garner.

The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Tuesday.

Violette Mae Eisberg was born January 29, 1932, at Salisbury, Mo., the daughter of Walter R. and Amanda (Jass) Eisberg. She graduated from the Garner High School in 1949. On January 2, 1951, she married Arnold Pearson at Garner. They later divorced. On May 28, 1978, Violette married Leon Thompson at Mason City. Leon died in May of 1995. On January 3, 1998, she was united in marriage to Herman Rickerl at Charles City. Violette and Herman’s marriage was blessed by a Catholic Priest in Leroy, Minn. on January 10, 1998. She was a farmer’s wife for 23 years, secretary and bookkeeper at Cerro Gordo County Farm Bureau, Hancock County ASCA Office, and bookkeeper for Thompson Mobile Service in Charles City. Violette was a 4-H leader for 9 years, Sunday school teacher, Hospice volunteer, Food Box volunteer and a Pink Lady at the Floyd County Medical Center. She was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City Women’s Club and the Hoe Garden Club. Her interests include playing in 500 marathons, arranging flowers, gardening and reading books. Violette’s favorite saying was, “To accept everyone as they are, not as they were yesterday or as they will be tomorrow, but as they are today.”

Living family members include her husband Herman Rickerl of Charles City; three children, Ellen Olson of Ames, Jeanne Carls of Coon Rapids, Minn. and William Pearson of Peoria, Ill.; eight step-children, Carmine (Dean) Swenson, Loren (Penny) Rickerl, Janelle (Gary) Sunnes all of Riceville, Karen (Larry) Smith of Broomfield, Colo., Marlin (Jan) Thompson of Harlan, Marlys (Frank) Nockels of Arvada, Colo., Paula Schwab of Fort Collins, Colo. and Jeffery Thompson, Sr. of Sun Prairie, Wis.; four grandchildren, Amanda (Tony) DeGrote, Andrew (Mary Anna) Carls, Ben (Stephanie) Olson and Sarah Olson; 24 step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren, Blake DeGrote, Tyanna Medrud, Kaleb Carls and Jack Carls; and several step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leon Thompson; one step-granddaughter; and one step-great granddaughter.

Milo “Mike” Schwarck

Milo “Mike” Schwarck, 87, of Charles City, died Sunday, October 4, 2009, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Mike Schwarck will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Colwell United Church of Christ in Colwell. Pastor Debra Lincoln will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Milo Ray Schwarck was born April 12, 1922, in Grundy County, the son of Alonzo and Ada (Smith) Schwarck. After his father’s death, when Mike was twelve, he and his brothers took over the farming operation. Mike graduated from Whitten High School in 1941. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. While serving in Italy he was injured and spent the remainder of his time in the hospital at Salt Lake City, Utah. On March 4, 1945, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Schuler. After his discharge Mike returned to Grundy County and farming. In 1956 they moved to Mitchell County where they had purchased a farm and where they would remain until retirement. On October 8, 1994, Lorraine died. Mike married Betty Woelfer Frankenfield on June 29, 1996. He was a member of the Colwell United Church of Christ, V.F.W. and had served as president of the Mitchell County Farm Bureau and chairman of the township ASC. His interests included fishing and playing cards. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor.

Living family members include his wife, Betty Schwarck of Charles City; 3 daughters, Jeanine (Gordon) Lockie of Elma, Christine (Gregory) Pitts of Elk Grove, Calif. and Korine Winders of Charles City; 9 grandchildren, Andrew (Melissa) Lockie, Erin (Mike) Shea, Michael Lockie and special friend Amy Rausch, Rachel (Nick) Boyle, Tammy (Barry) Smith, Jason (Jamie) Pitts, Daron (Melissa) Pitts, Adria (Joe) Pierce and Amanda Scheffert and special friend Brian Englehardt; 12 great grandchildren; five brothers, Dale (Margery) Schwarck of Eldora, Victor (Mona) Schwarck of Union, Donald (Norma) Schwarck, Paul (Catherine) Schwarck and Carl (Joan) Schwarck all of Marshalltown; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Schwarck of Union and Evelyn Schwarck of Eldora.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Lorraine; two brothers, Glen and Maurice Schwarck; a half brother, Richard Wolford; a sister, Margaret White; and a half sister, Lucille Strauss.
