Mary E. Idler, 87, of Mt. Vernon, Ind. and formerly of Ionia, died February 8, 2010, at the Mt. Vernon Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon, Ind.
Funeral services for Mary Idler will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor David Werges will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue an hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
Mary Eleanor Cagley was born March 27, 1922, in Deerfield Township, the daughter of Earl S. and Bertha (Miller) Cagley. She attended Chickasaw County rural schools. In 1947, she was united in marriage to Melvin Idler in Sioux Falls, S.D. Mary and Melvin owned and operated Idler Brothers’ farm drainage company. She was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Historical Society and Moose Lodge. Her interests included bingo, cooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren.
Living family members include her son, David (Alicia) Idler of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; four grandchildren, Amanda (David) Mastinson, Jacob (Lindsay) Idler, Steven (Karrin) Connors and Diane (Douglas) Jackson; six great grandchildren; and son-in-law, Steven Connors of Minneapolis, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Delores Connors; one sister and one brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund, 200 S. Main St. Charles City, IA 50616.
