Doris Sharp


Doris Sharp, 91, of Charles City, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Doris Sharp will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Bachman of the First Wesleyan Church will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at Marble Rock.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.

Doris Harriet Anderson Sharp was born May 6, 1918, in Rush City, Minn., the daughter of Harry and Aleda (Lund) Anderson. She graduated from South High School at Minneapolis, Minn. On April 23, 1939, she married Marvin Sharp at Minneapolis. They were engaged in farming until their divorce. She enjoyed working at Cashman’s Flower Shop for a number of years. Doris taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Charles City Women’s Club, Friendly Birthday Club and Floyd County Volunteers. Doris enjoyed traveling, having visited eight countries and all 50 of the United States. Her interests included painting, crocheting, reading, writing poetry, and making quilts and lap robes.

Living family members include four children, Richard “Dick” Sharp of Greenville, Ill., Gerald “Jerry” D. (Jean) Sharp of Charles City, Darryl Sharp of Raymond and Carol (Ronald) Martin of Decorah; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a brother, Leslie (Lorraine) Anderson of Minneapolis, Minn. and a sister, Joyce Droel of Northfield, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Wayne Sharp; a grandson, Dennis Sharp; two brothers, Wendell and Willard Anderson; and a sister, Phyllis Melcher.
