Vera Louise Friedman

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa - Vera Louise Friedman, age 84 of New Hampton, died Sunday August 19, 2007, at the New Hampton Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2007, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler with Rev. Peter Bodensteiner celebrating the Mass. The Pall will be placed on the casket by her two daughters. Lector will be Joe Scally. Presenting the offertory gifts will be her granddaughters, Sarah Pickar, Michele Friedman, Jennifer Friedman, Staci Jansma, Tessa Friedman, Jaclyn Valvoda and Kelly Friedman.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Hampton with grandsons, Chris Hoey, Steven Friedman, Andrew Friedman, Mark Friedman, Chad Valvoda, Scott Valvoda and Craig Friedman serving as pallbearers.

Friends may call 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2007, at Hugeback and Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 6:00 p.m. scripture service. Vera was born July 31, 1923, near Fredericksburg, Iowa the daughter of Julius H. and Louise (Gross) Drewelow. She attended rural country schools in Chickasaw County. On November 14, 1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hampton, she was united in marriage to Robert G. Friedman. To this union six children were born. The couple farmed in the Bassett and Ionia area and later in the Lawler area until they retired and moved in 1996 to New Hampton. Vera was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She enjoyed baking, canning and time with her ever growing family.

Survivors include her husband; Robert G.; four sons, Richard Friedman of Wichita, KS, Michael Friedman of New Hampton, Robert E. (Maxine) Friedman of Floyd, Kevin (Deb) Friedman of Marble Rock; two daughters, Kathleen (William) Hoey of New Hampton and Nancy (Ron) Valvoda of Elma; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Eichenberger of New Hampton and Ethel Clapp of Riceville; two brothers, Stanley (Marjean) Drewelow of Davenport, Julius “Bud” (Sue) Drewelow of New Hampton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Walter Drewelow.
