Buster Starr
CHARLES CITY, Iowa - Buster Starr, 90, of Charles City, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Buster Starr will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Gary Van Wert will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Sunnyside Memory Gardens. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.
Buster Starr was born March 14, 1917, in Pike County, Mo., the son of Frank and Mattie (Wooten) Starr. He received his education in Floyd County. Buster proudly served in the United States Army during World War II taking part in the D-Day Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart for his meritorious service. On March 6, 1949, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth „Betty‰ Chambers. They farmed in the Colwell area until moving into Charles City in 1964 at which time Buster worked as a janitor at the First Methodist Church and later Trinity United Methodist Church and also at the Charles City City Hall. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the American Legion. Buster will always be remembered as one who enjoyed visiting with everyone. He also took special interest in Zoya his daughter‚s pet cat. Buster always enjoyed being with his grandchildren and he looked forward to those times they could spend together.
Living family members include his wife, Betty Starr of Charles City; two children, Debra (Mark) Bonzer of Charles City and Carnette Starr of Charles City; two grandchildren, Zach and Megan Bonzer; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Richard, William "Jack" and Charles "Jim" Starr; and two sisters, Lena "Katherine" Aldrich and Esther Kline.
