Gilbert "Gib" LaCoste

OSAGE, Iowa - Gilbert "Gib" LaCoste, 85, of Charles City, died Thursday, January 31, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Osage.

Funeral services for Gilbert LaCoste will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City. Pastor Gary Van Wert will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue an hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Gilbert William LaCoste was born August 18, 1922, at Charles City, the son of William and Emily (Gallup) LaCoste. He attended school in Rudd. In 1942, he joined the Navy and served 3 ∏ years in the United States Navy Air Force. On February 14, 1981, he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Esser at Osage. Gilbert farmed from the time he returned from the Navy until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City and the American Legion. His interest‚s included farming, gardening, camping, canning, fishing, talking about the old days and his time in the service.

Living family members include his wife, Betty LaCoste of Charles City; three step-children, Carol (Larry) Schriever of Floyd, Michael (Sherry) Winters of Osage and Keith (Michelle) Warner of Rockford; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Jean in 1980; one sister, Joyce Kleen; and three brothers, Donald LaCoste, Raymond LaCoste and Charles LaCoste.
